Yesterday Labor Party MP, Shadow Minister for the Arts, *Mr. Peter 
Garrett* launched and our upcoming tour to Queensland and South Australia.
 
/Ngaparjti Ngapartji/ translates as 'I give you something, you give me 
something,' a concept of reciprocity which governs relationships in 
Pitjantjatjara society and culture and in an act of /Ngaparjti 
Ngapartji/ the company choir performed 'Beds are Burning' in 
Pitjantjatjara at the launch for Mr. Garrett in exchange for his support 
of the project.
 

 
Over the last three months community workshops with young people from 
town camps in Alice Springs have been focusing on communicating about 
the project. As a result the official website - http://ngapartji.org - 
has been redesigned by design team Makeshift using content from 
workshops. (Will be live next week to coincide with our opening in 
Adelaide).
 
As well as producing the new website over the past month project 
participants have scripted voiceovers, selected images and shot footage 
to put together a fantastic new *project film* with Arts Mentor Suzy 
Bates screened publicly for the first time on Wednesday. You can check

Preparing to tour has made us reflect that in the last 12 months we have 
done SIX seasons of /Ngaparjti Ngapartji/ - 3 of the language show and 3 
of the main stage production. Our website now includes 21 Pitjantjatjara 
language and culture lessons produced by over 30 young people in 4 
communities. Over 5000 people have seen the show, 1000 are on this list 
and 220 subscribe to /Ninti/.
 
AND the Ninti site has been archived by the National Library of 
Australia and The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait 
Islander Studies (AIATSIS) as one of their 'nationally significant 
electronic publications by and about indigenous people and issues'.  In 
order to spread the word further and have people understand what we are 
doing, we've done loads of media and spoken at a variety of conferences 
and symposia including Regional Arts Conference, Mackay, 
Art~Land~Culture, Alice Springs and the keynote address at the Attorney 
General's International Colloquium on Prevention of Crime.
 
All this is pretty amazing for a group of people who work out of a 
demountable that feels like a kitchen and blares booty music most days 
and who drive an old blue 1984 landcruiser which has just contracted a 
split rear diff from all our bush trips!
